Quinn Road History

For many, missing connections cause people to forget some of the ties to the past that build a rich community pride. With that in mind, Eric Jackson will present The History of Quinn Road to his alma mater on February 22 to help re-establish some valuable connections to help our students appreciate the rich historical significance of the Quinn Road area in Clinton Township. The Quinn Road area was home to a thriving African-American community that dates back to the late 1800s. Everyone in the Clintondale learning community has heard of, lives on, or been around Quinn Road, but few remember the historic significance of this area. This area has ties to major historical topics that our students study, like the Underground Railroad, the Great Migration, WWII, the Civil Rights Movement, and a new focus on urban renewal. Connecting these topics for our students will bridge course content to their world, in the hopes of creating even more pride in the community.

Eric Jackson was born and raised in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was a graduate of Clintondale High School and currently serves as a Restorative Justice Facilitator and Peer Mediator Trainer at Clintondale High School. Eric served in the U.S. Army and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. His academic past includes Macomb Community College, Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, D'Etre University, and a Tubman Fellowship at Harvard University. Eric is also active in the community. Past credentials include: president of Macomb County Branch of the NAACP, Clinton Township Civil Service Commission, Chair of Interfaith Center for Racial Justice, and Chair of the Martin Luther King Celebration dinner in Macomb County.

Students also documented their learning using 21st century skills in a video contest: https://youtu.be/E_3ZQvQ6jC4
